He was always a bit of a nut-job in my eyes. While watergate was his downfall, there were plenty going on backstage. It is rumored that he was a raging anti-semit and violent at home. He was also incredibly falls.

His international achievements were very impressive, but what he did in america is more shady.

Suffice to say that Hunter S. Thompson had nightmares and delusions of Nixon coming to take him smile
